Picture + 100 Words: Arcimboldo’s “M”

Arcimboldo. Sculpture based on WinterYou know Arcimboldo, right? The crazy cat from the 16th century that painted faces using found natural objects. His story is an interesting one. When he presented his paintings to the emperor, he was worried that he would be misunderstood. That Maximilian would take offense. He was, however, right on the money. Ole Max was a lover of natural sciences and especially fond of botany. This sculpture is based on the painting Winter, and not seen from this angle is a large M on the back of the cloak. For Maximilian.
